“Cadets” is an all-boys club that is offered in churches throughout the United States and Canada (Over 600 active clubs!). Their goal is to help boys to grow spiritually in all areas of life (mentally, physically, socially, and spiritually) by providing Christian men with a uniquely designed and structured program so that they can mentor boys effectively.  This organization has been around since 1952, and is sometimes referred to as “Young Calvinist Cadet Corps” in honor of the Protestant reformer, John Calvin, whose life was devoted to the religious education of God’s children. God has been using this group to make an impact on many men and boys throughout the years.

This is a mentorship program where men of the church come alongside of the young boys to encourage them to experience the presence of the Lord in His glorious creation. Learning the skills of an outdoorsman helps to build a boy’s character, and developing a boy’s understanding of his place in God’s kingdom helps him to be a faithful steward of the earth.  The Cadet Corps is the ministry of Godly men who are dedicated to bring boys into a living relationship with their Lord and Savior. While understanding their imperfection, these men hold on to the promise that the Lord will bless their prayers, their example, and their instruction if they rely on God’s strength. These men take time out of their schedules to make these boys feel important and valued. They encourage them to be active and unique and show them, by example, how to honor and worship the Lord in all areas of life.

Cadets at Providence

The Cadet club at Providence focuses on these things as well as building meaningful and long term relationships with one another. This group consists of boys in first grade through eighth grade and meets on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday nights of the month (September-May). These are the same Wednesdays as Providence’s ReFuel ministry. The boys enjoy a meal with their families at church and then gather in the Cadet room – a special place in the church building for this ministry.

Beyond the structured Wednesday night meetings, the Cadet boys’ club participates in many fun activities throughout the year. Some of those activities include a fall campout, Pinewood Derby Race, field trips, participating in volunteer projects, a spring campout, and play paintball.
