Bible Study Bible Study groups provide opportunities for fun, fellowship and the learning. Depending on the age, gender or issues, groups form to support one another in their Christian walk. Study materials and books are used in conjunction with group discussion. Men’s Promise Keepers
This “early risers” group gathers before work to spend 30 minutes in prayer for friends, relatives, church and family, and to discuss topics relevant to our calling to be Christian men in our marriages, homes, communities, churches, and workplaces. Wednesday mornings throughout the year 6:30 – 7:30 a.m. Coffee Break & Story HourIf you are available during the morning hours, come for a time of Bible study, prayer and fellowship from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. each Tuesday, starting in September. PRAYER GROUPS
Prayer is a conversation with God. It’s a two-way talk. When we listen we learn. When we join together to pray, we are supported and enfolded. Sunday Morning Prayer An hour before the morning service, everyone is invited to spend time together in prayer. We come to prepare our hearts for worship, bring praise and thanks to God, and to pray for the needs of our church family. Sunday 8:30 a.m. BOY’S & GIRL’S CLUBS
These clubs are offered to ensure that children have the opportunity to create friendships while growing in Christian knowledge, values as they develop positive behaviors and beliefs. GEMS & Junior GEMS “Girls Everywhere Meeting the Savior” A Christian girls’ club for fourth through eighth graders. It meets on the first and third Wednesday evening from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. A program designed to study the Bible, build friendships, and have fun with crafts. This group meets from late September until early May. Cadets A Christian boy’s club for boys in grades 4-8. Cadets meet on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday evenings from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. for crafts, Bible lessons, campouts, and other fun activities. This group meets from late September until early May. SOCIAL-SPIRITUAL GROUPS These groups are a chance for our members to gather together in fellowship and fun and to grow in their Christian walk through study, singing or activities.
YBCs “Young Believers in Christ” For guys and girls in 6th - 8th grade, the YBCs meet various Sundays and Saturdays throughout the school year – Sunday for a Bible lesson and fellowship, Saturdays for fun activities.
Youth Group Our high school youth group currently draws from a pool of youths who are of high school age. We have large and small group meetings which are led by youth leader couples and/or members of the pastoral staff. At these meetings the leaders and students discuss both spiritual and social matters, always keeping Christ at the center of all this fellowship.
SERVICE ACTIVITIES We believe in building bridges… Kids’ Hope USA “One Child, One Hour, One Church, One School” This program relies on compassionate volunteers to work with children in high risk situations to ensure that they receive encouragement and tutoring. Mentors and their children benefit from the relationship they develop. Providence Christian Reformed Church is affiliated with Glenwood Elementary School in the Kentwood, Michigan school district. Mentoring is once a week during the school year with periodic large group events and parties scheduled throughout the year. Master’s Builders “Because we care” We are not “master builders” but regular people doing the “Master’s work” as we join together on local and long distance trips to provide building, repair and renovation services to those in need. These activities build fellowship, provide a service and we even have fun. Annual long distance trips, local activities throughout the year Hands of Providence – Deacons There is nothing like a helping hand if you are dealing with an illness or a crisis. Who to turn to? This program run through the Deacons of Providence is in place specifically to assist members of Providence and the Community in helping them meet their needs. It might be a meal, or several…someone to cut the grass…or repair a roof…whatever we can do to help make life just a little bit easier. SOCIAL ACTIVITIES All work and no play…in our busy lives, it is so important to set aside time for one another just for enjoyment. These groups gather to participate in what we like to think of as “good, clean fun”. Forever YoungRetirees enjoy fun outings and social activities with other senior citizens. Various times throughout the year Spirit Moves Christian Karate – Led by Rick & Marylu Dykstra We offer our community a karate program that provides a safe, nurturing environment for children, youth and adults. Classes are taught by professional instructors in Okinawan Shorin Ryu Shorinkan Karate. Classes held at Providence are taught in the classical sense, maintaining respect for the traditional techniques, but in an environment intended to develop and nurture self-esteem and personal growth in mind, body and spirit. Tuesday 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. and Saturday 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. Softball – sign up activity Men’s fast-pitch team and following slow-pitch teams: men’s, women’s, and co-ed. Church Camping Weekend – sign up activity Annual camping event in various locations which are announced yearly. There is plenty of opportunity to play or relax. All ages. EDUCATION Continuing education in Christian values and beliefs is the foundation to good decision making and leading a life guided by our role model, Jesus Christ. To support the learning for various age groups, we have a variety of options available. Sunday School 1st through 5th grades Learn Bible Stories and have a special singing time. After the morning worship service Catechism (educational sessions) 6th-12th grades Study the principles of the Christian faith and aspects of Christian living. After the morning worship service starting in September and ending at the end of March. Adult Education Class 11:00 – 11:45 a.m. September – March. We offer different classes for adults on Sunday mornings following the worship service. The schedule and subjects for these classes are determined on an annual basis. CURRICULUM Our new year has some new and exciting materials available for our children and youth. Programs for adults will be posted and announced in the bulletin. For Sunday School and Catechism the curriculum will depend on the age level of each grade. |
