Girls Everywhere Meeting the Savior (GEMS)

GEMS is an all girls’ club organization that is offered in churches throughout the United States and Canada (Over 900 active clubs!). Their mission is “to help bring girls into a living, dynamic relationship with Jesus Christ.” This organization has been around since 1958, formerly known as Calvinettes. God has been using this group to make an impact on many women and girls throughout those years, specifically teaching them what it means to “act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly” with Him.

This is a mentorship program where women of the church come alongside of the young girls to inspire, train, and equip them to live a God-honoring life. These women take time out of their schedules to make these girls feel important and loved. They encourage them to be active and unique and show them, by example, how to honor and worship the Lord in all areas of life.

GEMS at Providence

The GEMS club at Providence focuses on these things as well as building meaningful and long term relationships with one another. This group consists of girls in first grade through eighth grade and meets on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday nights of the month (September-May). These are the same Wednesdays as Providence’s ReFuel ministry. The girls enjoy a meal with their families at church and then gather in the GEMS room – a special place in the church building for this ministry.

There are both large group and small group aspects to the program. Large groups include all participating girls and the leaders. Small groups are typically organized by grade and include six to eight girls per leader.

At GEMS club, the girls will read the Bible and learn how to apply it to their lives. They also make purposeful crafts. Beyond these activities, girls develop a meaningful relationship with Jesus Christ, foster a relationship with their leader as a contact in the church, and make new friends with girls around them.

Beyond the structured Wednesday night meetings, the GEMS girls’ club participates in many fun activities throughout the year. Some of those activities have included a sleepover, roller-skating party, Special Friends dinner night, and a service project that encouraged church members.
